Our hallmark instructor program

Our hallmark course, our Less-Lethal Instructor Program provides the necessary training for our changing world. This course is comprised for four 8-hour instructor level classes covering OC Aerosols, Specialty Impact and Chemical Munitions and Distraction Devices. The student will acquire a general working knowledge of Defense Technology® products, both technically and tactically, along with the skills necessary to conduct in-service training.

Course Overview

Each of the four class modules focuses on a different subject and includes a half-day of lecture-based studies, followed by a half day in the field doing deployment drills. Unlike many classes on this topic, the state-of-the-art deployment tactics taught in this class come direct from the manufacturer of the products used. Students have the option of taking each module individually, or registering for all four modules for a discounted price of $895. Upon completion of the course and successfully passing the final exam, the student is allowed to provide in-service training to their agency in specific areas for 24 calendar months from the testing date.

In each topic, the student will receive a CD containing the PowerPoint program used in each course. These CDs contain material and video to be utilized by the student when for training in their own departments.

Day 1 - $100
OC Aerosol Projectors Instructor Program

• Formulations/carriers/propellants/delivery systems/projectors
• Effectiveness/safety/liability factors/policy and procedures
• Decontamination/first aid
• Officer-survival techniques
• Instructor development to establish in-house/in-service training and documentation skills

Day 2 - $275
SM Specialty Impact Munitions Instructor Program

• Weapons and munitions: 12ga./37mm/40mm/hand delivered
• Tactical consideration in the use of impact munitions in crowd-control/dynamic-entry/hostage-rescue/barricaded-subject situations
• Physiological/psychological effects
• Liability consideration/policy and procedures
• Blunt trauma/ballistics and energy
• Instructor development to establish in-house/in-service training and documentation skills

Day 3 - $350
CM-ICP Chemical Munitions Instructor Program (CN/CS/OC/Smoke)

• Types and forms of chemical agents
• Tactical consideration in the use of chemical munitions in crowd-control/barricaded-subject situations
• Live-fire exercises
• Decontamination/first aid
• Protective masks (vision-impaired and oxygen-depletion drills)
• Criminal and civil liabilities/policy and procedures
• Instructor development to establish in-house/in-service training and documentation skills

Day 4 — $350
DD-ICP Distraction Devices Instructor Program

• Distraction devices: types and nomenclature/reloadable and non-reloadable devices/command initiated
• Decibels/candela/p.s.i./overpressure
• Handling/storage/rendering safe
• Tactical deployment/safety considerations/policy and procedures
• Criminal and civil liabilities
• Live-firing exercises/operational scenarios
• Instructor development to establish in-house/in-service training and documentation skills

Safariland Training Group will supply all munitions required for the class. Although launchers are available at the class for student use, it is highly recommended that students bring the departmental launcher for training purposes. After all, this is the gun they will use to instruct and certify other members of their department.

Fit for Duty: Each of the four modules in this program involve physical exercises. Students are required to actively participate in these exercises as part of their instructor-level training. Students should be physically prepared for these classes in order to ensure successful completion of the courses. Some of these courses involve exposure to chemical agents as well as the physical exercises. Students with physical conditions that may impair their ability to participate are responsible for contacting their physician for medical clearance prior to enrollment. Conditions requiring such consultation include but are not limited to high blood pressure, heart problems, lung problems, to include bronchitis and asthma, or allergies. Safariland, LLC will not assume responsibility for any students who do not seek medical consultation prior to course participation. Any student who is unable to participate in the exercises cannot complete this instructor level course. It is incumbent upon the student to ensure they are physically capable of meeting the requirements of the courses.

Notice to students: All students in this course are exposed to OC as a requirement for their instructor training. Students who have undergone any type of eye surgery in the past 12 months must notify the Safariland Training Group prior to enrollment in an OC certification course. Typically, patients who have undergone eye surgery require approximately six months for complete recovery. In order to provide the greatest safety margin, Safariland has therefore concluded that any student who has undergone eye surgery is STRONGLY advised to delay participation in this class for a full calendar year from the date of surgery.
