Can I still get vests based off the .05 standard?

Yes you can! Although the new NIJ 0101.06 standard supersedes both the NIJ's 2005 Interim Requirements (est. August 2005) and the 0101.01 Rev. A (est. June 2001) standards, it does not obsolete them.

In fact, NIJ 2005 Interim Requirement compliant body armor can still be purchased today. By purchasing a legacy body armor system from Safariland you will be getting the highest level of performance and comfort available in a “pre NIJ .06” vest.

How long will I be able to get .05 standard vests?

Safariland will continue to offer many of its .05 compliant vest models through 2010. However, we will primarily focus on the promoting our new .06 compliant products in order support the NIJ's initiative for rapid adoption of the new standard.
