Safariland Introduces the New Second Chance Monarch Series with the MR01

April 20, 2011
Jacksonville, FL

Safariland, a BAE Systems line of business, announced today the resurgence of the Monarch Series, another legacy name in the Second Chance® family of concealable body armor. The successful compliance testing of the model MR01 is our first product line offered under the Second Chance® Monarch® Series.

For nearly 40 years, Second Chance® body armor has been saving lives. With a reputation of high ballistic performance along with lasting comfort demanded by today’s law enforcement community, we’re proud to offer products under the new Monarch® Series and our established Summit Series, which includes the SM01 and the MN01 models.

The new Monarch MR01 features the advanced hybrid technology of both Twaron® and Honeywell® Gold Shield® ballistic materials for enhanced performance, increased comfort and flexibility. The Monarch MR01 model is offered in threat types: IIA, II, and IIIA.  All threat types satisfy the requirements of the National Institute of Justice’s (NIJ) Voluntary Body Armor Compliance Testing Program under NIJ Standard-0101.06 (NIJ-06). For example, the Type IIA has been tested against the 9mm & .40 cal.; the MR01 Type II tested against the 9mm & .357 Mag.; and the Type IIIA tested against the .357 Sig & .44 Mag., all of which are NIJ-06 designated rounds.

In addition to the NIJ-06 Compliance Testing Program, the Monarch MR01 Series has been tested against special threat types as well.

The NIJ introduced the Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor NIJ Standard-0101.06 to establish minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor. The standard provides improved performance of body armor so that officers receive adequate protection against those threats likely faced over the next decade. According to the new NIJ-06 standard, body armor must now be able to defend against increased velocities of ammunition calibers to better reflect current street threats and law enforcement duty weapons. These new performance requirements are critical components to improving the life-protecting equipment being used by law enforcement today.

All Safariland concealable armor models are certified using NIJ-approved size templates C1 and C5, which offer law enforcement agencies the widest range of production sizes available. In addition, the MR01 comes standard with a SPA Plus carrier.

Safariland offers an array of concealable and tactical products, which are available and posted to the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL) at http://www.justnet.org/pages/BallisticCPL.aspx

Together, Safariland’s body armor models combine the heritage, expertise and experience of ABA®, Second Chance®, SAVVY® and PROTECH® Tactical. In doing so, Safariland offers the most comprehensive line of body armor available in the industry. Safariland’s NIJ-06 body armor provides law enforcement officers with enhanced performance, durability, comfort and value, which deliver on the company’s motto: Together, We Save Lives™.
