Defense Technology Brand Celebrates The One Year Anniversary of the Fuel Air, Low Roll and Low Roll II Distraction Device Models

Jacksonville, Fla. January 17, 2012

Safariland®, a BAE Systems line of business, celebrates the one year anniversary of the release of the Fuel Air, Low Roll, and Low Roll II Distraction Device® models in its Defense Technology® brand. The distinctive shape and unique capabilities of these products provide valuable new tools for police, corrections, and military tactical teams worldwide.

The Fuel Air model uses thermobaric technology, pioneered by Sandia National Laboratories and is exclusively licensed to the Defense Technology brand.  This is an advancement in the safe deployment of a light/sound device, as the combustion takes place outside of the canister body producing 170(+) dB of ear piercing sound and 6(+) million candelas to overload the senses.  Since the deflagration takes place outside of the body, the entire combustion can be seen.  This means that the illumination period is over 20 milliseconds long.  This extended time allows the flash image to be retained longer than from a conventional device and enhances the temporary disorientation to those exposed.

The ergonomic shape and ease of use of the Low Roll body, combined with the powerful output of light, sound and 12 top port configurations result in an even distribution of gases from the opposing ends of the canister. The distinctive shape and capabilities are tools for police, corrections, and military tactical teams worldwide.

The Low Roll 8902NR model provides deflagration over 175(+) dB and 6 – 8 million candelas.  Available in a non-reloadable device, the distinctive shape provides less roll and better grip.  The diameter of the hex design body is 2.0 in., 5.0 cm. overall length is 5.0 in., 12.7 cm.

The Low Roll8933 model is a reloadable steel body with a top and bottom port designed to ensure equalization of blast pressure to minimize movement. The body design reduces rolling when deployed and will accept both 15-gram and 4-gram reloads with a M201A1 type fuze.

The Low Roll II™ model is ergonomically designed to fit in the hand, while packing all the power of the Multi-Port Plus™ model.  Boasting a 175(+) dB and 6 – 8 million candelas, this all-steel body is designed to reduce the roll effect, greatly enhancing the device staying where you intended it to land.  The smaller body will fit in tactical pouches easily and while it delivers the hyper-stimulation required for the tactical situation at hand.  The 11-gram non-reloadable device incorporates an M201A1 fuze with hex cut ends on a 0.78-inch diameter steel body.
