Intro. What's going on, guys? Will here with Safariland, and today we're going to be talking about a product we developed in collaboration with Haley Strategic Partners: the BASELINE belt. We have a MOLLE and a Slick version. If you purchased the Slick version, go ahead and skip forward in the video.
MOLLE belt overview (0:21). The first thing we're going to talk about is the MOLLE version. This is our MOLLE belt, kitted out with a few different pouches. It's a standard MOLLE/PALS system, so it interfaces with a lot of the pouches you might already have. You can also run a dump pouch with the VELCRO on the inside. It uses an Overlock Tab that interfaces here, so when you buckle your belt you have that rigidity all the way around your waist, and then it connects using a Raptor buckle. There's nothing too complex going on here. This belt was designed for rigidity support. It's lightweight so you can stay comfortable when you're wearing it for extended periods of time, and it can still hold all the gear you take to the range.
Mounting pouches on MOLLE (1:17). If you've never used a MOLLE attachment system before, it's a very robust and sturdy system. Once you get these pouches locked in, they're pretty much not going to go anywhere. If you've used MOLLE in the past, you'll already have a good understanding of how this works. Feed through the top row, come down and back underneath the pouch, go one more time through the bottom row of PALS on your MOLLE belt, and pull everything down tight. Then feed the bottom of the clip in at the bottom. Now that pouch is going to stay locked in. It's not going to move left, right, up or down. This is a modern modular belt platform: if you want something that interfaces with the pouches you may already have, is a little more rigid and a little lighter, and that you can wear for an extended period of time, this is probably the belt for you.
Slick belt overview (2:31). Now let's take a look at the Slick belt. As you can see, there's no MOLLE here; this one's a little more low profile. It's built for someone who's maybe a competitor, or maybe it's your first belt. It's still built with the same rigidity as the MOLLE belt, just more low profile. It's more of a minimalist belt, but it's still very functional.
Attaching Mandible straps (2:59). Using the Mandible straps, we can still attach all of our pouches, as well as use the VELCRO on the inside. Because the Slick belt isn't restricted to MOLLE slots, you can slide pouches on their Mandibles along the belt to wherever is most comfortable, which allows a wide range of adjustability. Once it's where you want it, lay the top flap down, put the bottom flap through the slot, and pull them both tight. Then lay the bottom flap down to lock it into place. Just like the MOLLE system, it's not going to move left, right, up or down, especially once you interface this belt with the inner belt. The Mandible has the same hook as the inside of the outer belt, so you won't have any gaps. If you already have pouches at home, add Mandible straps and they'll interface with the Slick belt the same way, so you don't have to buy all-new pouches.
Canted vs. vertical Mandibles (4:06). These pouches are attached using the canted Mandibles. If you'd rather run your magazines vertically, you can get a vertical Mandible. It attaches the same way: lay the belt over the pouch, come over the top, put the bottom strap through the same type of slot, and pull everything tight. It has the same hook on the underside, so it interfaces with the inner belt. One of the key benefits of the Slick belt is that you're not restrained by MOLLE webbing. Whether you want to try 45-degree canted pouches, a vertical mag orientation, or moving pouches up and down the belt, Mandible straps make those changes much easier than on the MOLLE belt, where it takes a lot more time and, once it's locked in, you're committed.
Slick or MOLLE: which to buy (5:18). If you're on the fence: if you're already in a MOLLE system and your existing pouches all have MOLLE attachments, the MOLLE belt is probably the better fit. If you're a newer shooter buying your first belt, I'd lean toward the Slick belt. When you're new, you're constantly toying with your gear: moving things around, trying things out, canting your pouches and turning them back to vertical. All of that is infinitely easier with the Slick belt.
Using your existing inner belt (5:48). A quick note on the inner belt: if you have an existing loop inner belt, the BASELINE outer belt will interface with it, so you can run multiple setups at the range. Thanks for watching.
